Who can be a member?
SOARC at present is only open to members of Sherwood Observatory.
If you’d like to come and see us but you’re not yet an Observatory member, a good first step is to visit one of the Sherwood Observatory public open events, where we often set up an event radio station (GB2SO). Details of these (pre-booked ticketed only) Public Open Events are listed on the Sherwood Observatory website. (Feel free to contact us to check that we will be present at one of these open events via our contact section).
You can also become a member of Sherwood Observatory, subject to the joining criteria in place at the time. Full details are available on the main Sherwood Observatory website under “Support Us.”
Once you’re an Observatory member, you’ll be welcome to:
- Join SOARC (which is a sub-group of the Observatory and is part of the overall membership benefits package)
- Attend SOARC meetings and opportunities to attend SOARC events and demonstrations (inc. at Public Event)
- Opportunities to get involved in SOARC practical projects
- And of course, get involved in everything the Observatory has to offer too including:
- Learn how to use a telescope to observe and enjoy the night sky
- Get involved with the Radio Astronomy Centre, which studies natural radio signals from space, meteor detection and other related projects
- Volunteer to help bring STEM subjects to life for visitors and the wider public
