Training and licence exams:

One of SOARC’s aims is to offer training and licence exam support.

Our current training roadmap aims are:

• Short term:
  • help existing Observatory members:
    • Get started with Foundation Level amateur radio
    • Progress towards Intermediate Level
• Medium term – explore:
  • Running structured training sessions, inc. up to Full Licence Level
  • In conjunction with the public astronomy courses held at the Observatory to offer attendees the chance to learn and experience amateur radio
  • Working with the Observatory to host exams on-site (subject to RSGB, exam-body and Observatory arrangements)
• Longer term – explore potentially to open up training and exam opportunities to:
  • The wider public (subject to approval & arrangements)
  • Local schools and community groups (subject to the Observatory School’s & Education agenda, approval, and safeguarding protocols)
  • Other visitors with an interest in amateur radio and STEM related subjects
