{"id":101,"date":"2025-11-15T23:39:08","date_gmt":"2025-11-15T23:39:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.soarc.org.uk\/?page_id=101"},"modified":"2025-11-16T06:46:28","modified_gmt":"2025-11-16T06:46:28","slug":"what-we-do","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.soarc.org.uk\/index.php\/what-we-do\/","title":{"rendered":"What we do"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Sherwood Observatory Amateur Radio Club (SOARC) is the amateur radio group for members of Sherwood Observatory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We provide a practical, hands-on environment where Observatory members can explore radio, electronics and communications, while also helping to deliver engaging outreach for visitors and the wider public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Typical activities include:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Live HF and VHF\/UHF operating<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Digital\/data modes operations and demonstrations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Portable \/ field operations (often led by individual members with proposals to co-locate with astronomy field trips too!)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Technical talks and show-and-tell sessions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support for Observatory open events and visiting groups, especially within STEM subjects<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Proposals to attend off site visits and events, including any opportunities to operate radio!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We are also going to be offering Amateur Radio Licence training initally within the Observatory membership.
